Recovery of Stolen Cryptocurrency

State police in Connecticut have successfully recovered $42,129 of stolen cryptocurrency for a victim in Norwich. The incident traces back to a significant theft reported in March, involving over $159,712.26 worth of Bitcoin and Ethereum that was illegally taken from a cold storage wallet, referred to as a “wallet drainer.”

Investigation Details

Following the report, the Norwich Police Department reached out to state police. Detectives were able to trace the stolen cryptocurrencies to two compliant exchanges. They issued freeze requests and obtained search warrants from the New London Superior Court to seize the assets.

The investigation led to the recovery of 0.28993293 Bitcoin (BTC) and $24,051.40 in cash, totaling an estimated $42,129.95 returned to the victim.
