This tweet coincided with the celebration of Bitcoin's 16th anniversary.

On January 3, 2009, Satoshi mined Bitcoin's genesis block, also known as Block 0. This initial block held a significant message embedded in its code: "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks," referencing a headline from the same day's newspaper. While the Bitcoin whitepaper was published on October 31, 2008, many enthusiasts mark January 3, 2009, as the cryptocurrency's official birthday.

Bitcoin's Incredible Price Evolution

Alex Thorn also shared an image showcasing Bitcoin's price trajectory since its inception, revealing a staggering rise from virtually $0 to thousands of dollars. At its launch, Bitcoin had no monetary value; however, by January 3, 2025, it was trading at an impressive $96,547.

Satoshi's advice to "get some in case it catches on" has proven remarkably prophetic. Over the past 16 years, Bitcoin has not only gained traction but has also established itself as a cornerstone of the cryptocurrency market. As of now, Bitcoin is trading at $98,208, having achieved an all-time high of $108,268 on December 17, 2024. Currently, Bitcoin boasts a market valuation of $1.93 trillion, having previously touched $2 trillion last December.
