Summary:

  • 172,300 crypto millionaires exist, primarily due to Bitcoin and Ethereum.

  • Bitcoin accounts for 85,400 millionaires, a 111% increase year-over-year.

  • The rise is driven by the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs and Bitcoin reaching $73,750.

  • Ethereum is recognized as an "apex predator asset" with diverse applications.

  • Investing today does not guarantee millionaire status; early recognition of value is key.

There are now over 172,300 crypto millionaires in the world, a significant increase attributed to Bitcoin and Ethereum. According to the Crypto Wealth Report 2024 from Henley & Partners, this marks a 95% increase from last year, showcasing the growing wealth generated by these cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin: The Leading Millionaire-Maker

Bitcoin alone accounts for nearly half of these millionaires, with 85,400 individuals reaching millionaire status, reflecting a 111% year-over-year increase. Additionally, there are 156 Bitcoin centi-millionaires and 11 billionaires. This surge is linked to two main factors: the launch of new spot Bitcoin ETFs and Bitcoin's record price of $73,750 earlier this year.

Investor with private jet

The introduction of spot Bitcoin ETFs allows investors to buy and sell Bitcoin as easily as stocks, potentially leading to further wealth creation. According to Cathie Wood of Ark Invest, Bitcoin could reach $1 million by 2030, suggesting that purchasing just one Bitcoin today could pave the way to millionaire status.

Ethereum: The Apex Predator Asset

Another cryptocurrency to watch is Ethereum, described as an "apex predator asset". Unlike Bitcoin, which is often seen as digital gold, Ethereum has various applications, including blockchain gaming, NFTs, and decentralized finance (DeFi). Since its launch in 2015, Ethereum's value has skyrocketed by nearly 2400x, with current prices around $2,352.

Ethereum's unique coin burn mechanism steadily removes coins from circulation, similar to a stock buyback, which may support its price over time.

The Path to Millionaire Status

While discussing the number of crypto millionaires is exciting, investing in Bitcoin or Ethereum today does not guarantee wealth. Many current millionaires accumulated their assets when these cryptocurrencies were undervalued. Recognizing such opportunities can be challenging, as seen with Michael Saylor, who only began investing when Bitcoin was priced at $9,500.

Despite the volatility, the potential for future wealth remains. If Bitcoin reaches its projected heights, there is a viable path to becoming a crypto millionaire. However, investors should prepare for fluctuations and commit to long-term strategies.
