Fundraising platform JustGiving has made a significant leap by rolling out support for cryptocurrency donations, expanding the ways users can support charities and fundraising campaigns.

The UK-based crowdfunding site now allows donations in over 60 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, and Dogecoin. This move comes as retail interest in cryptocurrencies is experiencing a resurgence.

Digital asset payments provider The Giving Block has supplied the necessary infrastructure for JustGiving to accept these crypto donations.

“Our goal is to make accepting cryptocurrency donations just as easy as taking any other online donations,” said Alex Wilson, co-founder of The Giving Block. “Charities need to tap into this new donor demographic.”

Since its inception, JustGiving has facilitated nearly $9 billion in donations over the past 24 years. With the introduction of crypto-denominated donations, it is well-positioned to attract even more funds. In recent years, crypto donations have contributed billions to charities, with over $2 billion donated in the last five years alone, according to The Giving Block’s 2024 Annual Report.

Interestingly, the average crypto donation is approximately 40 times larger than traditional fiat donations, highlighting the potential for increased funding in the charitable sector.
