From $50 to $100: The Rollercoaster Journey of My Bitcoin Investment!

Welcome to 2025! As I kick off the year, it’s time to reflect on my Bitcoin investment journey that began on January 1, 2022. I initially invested $50 after PayPal announced its new Bitcoin wallet feature, and what followed was a wild ride.

My Start with Bitcoin

On that fateful day, I set out to invest my entire PayPal balance but settled on a more cautious $50 (plus a $1.15 fee). Shortly after, my holdings plummeted by 14%, and within two weeks, I found myself down 28%. It was a tough pill to swallow, and I even publicly questioned the wisdom of investing in such a volatile asset.

January 2023: The Downward Spiral

Fast forward to January 2023, and I was still reeling from a 60% drop in value. My investment was worth a fraction of what I had put in, leading me to avoid checking my account until the next New Year.

January 2024: A Glimmer of Hope

In January 2024, I was pleasantly surprised to find that my holdings had almost doubled since July of the previous year, though they were still underwater. The Bitcoin halving event in April 2024 and the political climate contributed to a surge in Bitcoin's value, which hovered around $60K.

New Year's Day 2025: The Big Reveal

By January 1, 2025, my investment had reached nearly $100—almost double my initial stake! Despite this, I remain skeptical. While I’m pleased with my returns, I don’t plan to invest more. The unpredictability of cryptocurrency keeps me cautious.

Is Bitcoin a Good Investment?

So, is Bitcoin a good investment? I think it’s insane to consider it a reliable asset. It’s essentially an agreement to assign value to an algorithm, much like our economy assigns value to fiat currencies. While I won’t be increasing my investment, I’m curious to see if Bitcoin will ever replace traditional currencies. Only time will tell!
