Bitcoin's rough week has continued into Friday, with the price of the leading cryptocurrency falling below $58,000. While Bitcoin has seen a 4% decrease in the last day, other top coins like Ethereum and Solana have experienced even greater percentage dips this August.

Current Market Status

Bitcoin is currently sitting at $57,932, down nearly 6% this week and about 9% since the start of August. Meanwhile, Ethereum (ETH) is trading at $2,440, reflecting a 5% drop on the day and 22% loss this month, starting from around $3,146.

Solana has performed even worse, down almost 9% today to a price of about $133, suffering more than 21% loss since the beginning of the month.

Liquidation Surge

The declines across the market have resulted in a spike in liquidations, totaling $186 million across crypto positions over the past 24 hours, with Bitcoin leading at nearly $58 million worth of liquidations.

Market Sentiment

Despite the downward trend in cryptocurrency prices, the stock market remains only slightly down. The recent Fed inflation report has met expectations, maintaining the belief that rate cuts may be on the horizon, which was hinted at by Fed Chair Jerome Powell last week.
